Career and Technology

Career and Technology classes help students connect what they are learning to real world applications and explore possible careers of interest. With an emphasis on problem solving, critical thinking, time management and communication, students acquire key skills required for career success.  Instructors facilitate field experiences and guest speakers so students can access professionals in the areas of study which include agricultural science, technology and the arts.

    This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to understand and explain the basic principles of food processing and marketing. Students will learn to interpret a nutritional label, conduct sensory evaluations, create food products, examine safety and sanitation procedures and understand how products are marketed to consumers. The examination of current trends and new technologies to the food science industry will be included. Field trips to local businesses, career exploration and hands on activities will be an important part of this course.
