This course provides the student with an introduction to the fundamental concepts of matter and energy. Some of the principles studied are force, momentum, energy and work, electricity, and thermodynamics. In addition, there is a strong emphasis on the scientific proc ess as well as a laboratory component.

Creative Writing is a course designed to create an opportunity for student self-exploration and expression using a variety of both oral and written avenues by exposing students to a variety of different genres. Class sessions will consist of: writing first drafts, readings and discussions of contemporary writers, students’ own work, revision sessions, and one-on-one discussions of the students’ work.

CSI investigates contemporary social issues that impact the United States as well as the global community. Students demonstrate mastery through the development and completion of an academic journal, writing “college style” essays, learning the research process, and working in small group situations. Contracting for a grade is optional.

This Dance elective course is aimed at the exploration of different forms of dance through movement. Students will acquire technical movement concepts, related vocabulary, and will participate in forms of dance as a means of self-expression. Following our four main units of Jazz, Hip-Hop, Theatrical, and Cultural dance, students will collaborate and perform for our community in a course-ending finale, which will serve as the final exam.

The goal of this course is to enhance the student’s learning and understanding of basic and intermediate drawing and 2D processes and techniques.  Learning will occur through projects, research, museum visits, and collaborative work.  This class will be divided into two sections based on student interest and ability.  Those students interested and able to demonstrate ability through preemptive assessment will be granted the privilege of joining the Advanced Drawing class.  Potential Projects and Units of Study include:  Grid drawings, drawing from Life (Still Life and Human Figure), Perspective (1 point and 2 point), Printmaking, Sumi Drawing, Value, and Landscapes.

ECE Spanish or Spanish 3177 is a course designed for intermediate-high to advanced and bilingual students of Spanish who have a basic knowledge of Spanish but need to improve their reading skills, oral communication and formal written Spanish. In this course students will study grammatical rules and will develop their writing skills.  They will work to cultivate a strong vocabulary through reading articles, poetry, essays, short stories, and texts from a wide variety of well-known writers in the Spanish-speaking world including Sandra Cisneros, Francisco X. Alarcón, Jorge Ramos, Celia Cruz, César Chavez, Julia de Burgos and more.

HST 1300 is a college-level course offered in coordination with UConn’s History Department. It is a survey course that introduces students to the roots of western civilization by incorporating analysis of content, exposure to primary sources, and college writing. Students that successfully complete the course are eligible to receive 3 credits from UConn.
