The Social Studies Department at Grove School is committed to helping students develop a civic responsibility as well as a cultural appreciation. Social Studies classes cover a variety of topics in US History, Global Studies, Cultural and Social Issues. The department promotes critical thinking through analysis of primary sources and develops students’ ability to formulate and support positions on historical and current topics.

Colonial America is organized as a yearlong study of the American past from Colonization through the Civil War. Emphasis will be placed on major events, individuals and ideas comprising our American heritage. Students will increase their knowledge of historical insights, core democratic values, economic principles and civic awareness. This course will help students better understand today’s world and encourage them to become responsible citizens in the future.
