Business Math (also known as Real Life Math) is a class that offers instruction for every day mathematical situations. In this course, students will define and refine skills that will aid them in tasks that range from simple balancing of a bank account to understanding taxes and discounts and other everyday needs. This class is ideal for students needing more math credits as well as for seniors preparing to enter the ‘real world’.

This course will teach students the fundamentals behind working with low fire clay to make functional wares using various techniques.  They will learn how to actively start incorporating the principles and elements of visual art into works that they design themselves and how to articulate these ideas into critique.  The students will be instructed in hand building:  slab, coil and pinch pots, as well learning to throw successful pieces on the potter’s wheel.

Chemistry is the understanding of “the stuff” (Matter) that makes up our world. This class is geared as preparation for college-minded students to provide the foundational skills needed to be successful in later scientific endeavors. Chemistry seeks to define the atomic theory from its inception to modern day thought and understand reactions between elements and compounds, the creation of molecules and compounds, and apply these concepts to further understand our world. Class consists of reading, lecture, and laboratory observations and experiments.

Child Development is a survey course of the developing child from prenatal development to age three. We will take an in-depth look at the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of children through age 3. This course will have an experiential learning component; students will have the opportunity to observe children in “real life” settings (nursery school, day care, etc.) and connect it to their learning in the classroom.

The Grove School choir is a female and male vocal group that ranges from grades 7-12.  The choir will sing selections from different genres in SAB and SATB voicing.  Students will learn proper vocal techniques that include but aren’t limited to singing on pitch (solo and in group), rhythmic accuracy, harmonizing, posture, breathing, and sight reading.

Civics is a course designed to give the student an understanding of the American government by learning how to apply and evaluating governmental strategies and theories. Current events will be discussed weekly and a large focus will be placed on students learning how to be an active and responsible citizen in our society. In addition, students will gain an understanding of inflation, unemployment, interest rates, recessions, depression and recovery.

Colonial America is organized as a yearlong study of the American past from Colonization through the Civil War. Emphasis will be placed on major events, individuals and ideas comprising our American heritage. Students will increase their knowledge of historical insights, core democratic values, economic principles and civic awareness. This course will help students better understand today’s world and encourage them to become responsible citizens in the future.
