Ryan Shook, LCSW

Ryan Shook began his career in the helping field as an after-school support staff and camp counselor. From this work with children and adolescents, Ryan became more interested in helping those who need extra care and support. Ryan went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Human Services from Burlington College, a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Connecticut, and a license to practice clinical social work (LCSW) in the state of Connecticut.

Ryan has worked in a variety of clinical settings including schools, homes, residential treatment centers, summer camps, outpatient clinics, and correctional facilities providing care to children, adolescents, adults, and families for more than 17 years.

Ryan’s therapeutic style is eclectic. He strives to meet clients where they are while also supporting their growth and change process. Ryan is motivated to create a non-judgmental and nurturing space for the people with whom he works. His practice incorporates a variety of therapeutic approaches including strength based, person centered, relational, trauma informed, and family systems theory. Depending on the needs of each individual Ryan may use expressive arts therapy, solution focused therapy, attachment focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. Ryan is trained in the attachment-based program Circle of Security.

Outside of work Ryan enjoys music, movies, hiking with his dog, and kayaking. Ryan is delighted to be a part of the Grove community and to continue his work helping adolescents and families.
