Spanish

At Grove School, Spanish is taught from an introductory level up to an advanced college standard through the University of Connecticut Early College Experience program.   Beginning with these introductory classes, emphasis is placed on developing the four basic communicative skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  Curriculum is based on the Connecticut World Language Curriculum Framework with support from the American Association on the Teaching of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).   Students in the higher levels have opportunities to develop analytical skills by discussing literary texts, visual and performing arts, current events, history and everyday life.  Advanced students can join the Spanish Honor Society which has a community service component.   It is believed at Grove that language and communication are at the heart of the human experience and our school must strive to educate students to be linguistically and culturally prepared to function as world citizens.
