The Social Studies Department at Grove School is committed to helping students develop a civic responsibility as well as a cultural appreciation. Social Studies classes cover a variety of topics in US History, Global Studies, Cultural and Social Issues. The department promotes critical thinking through analysis of primary sources and develops students’ ability to formulate and support positions on historical and current topics.

This introductory elective course will launch students into the multifaceted field of Anthropology and ask them to investigate subtopics from prehistoric archaeology to modern forensic anthropology. The course will be divided into four main subsections: cultural anthropology, biological/ physical anthropology, archaeology, and linguistics. This course incorporates basic biology and physiology, history, geography, sociology, and evolution, in order to gain insights into the dynamics of the human condition.
