Social Studies

The Social Studies Department at Grove School is committed to helping students develop a civic responsibility as well as a cultural appreciation. Social Studies classes cover a variety of topics in US History, Global Studies, Cultural and Social Issues.  The department promotes critical thinking through analysis of primary sources and develops students’ ability to formulate and support positions on historical and current topics.

    This is an introductory course in Sociology, which is designed to increase student understanding of contemporary American society. Students will examine the social forces that have shaped, and which continue to shape, the social institutions and their impact on the lives of individuals and the ways in which people interact in various social settings. The class will also look at how inequalities in wealth, race, and gender affect individuals and groups.
