Family Therapy
While the families of Grove students do not reside within the school, their influence remains integral to our community dynamics, impacting both their children and the broader community. A key therapeutic intervention for our students involves supporting their families by addressing maladaptive patterns of functioning.
Recognizing that families are multifaceted, comprised of various subsystems, is important. Parents hold particular significance, as the quality of the parental relationships profoundly shapes the family environment. Neglecting this dyad may hinder efforts to shift family dynamics, perpetuating a focus solely on the identified child. Encouraging the parental couple to engage in honest self-reflection is essential, though doing so requires both commitment and courage.
Given the complexity of family subsystems, our family therapists—who also serve as the child’s individual therapists at Grove—must remain flexible. Family therapists adeptly navigate subsystems, offering targeted interventions as needed. Typically, family therapy occurs once a month, but the frequency may be adjusted based on the family’s specific circumstances and needs.
