10:50-11:30: Introductions
Reflections & Discovery: What you bring to the journey

 

11:30-12:00: The role of the nurse practitioner at Grove School

 

 

Clinical integration
Prescribing practices & current science
Medication management & overall mental health with transitions to young adulthood

 

12:15-3:00: Participate in 3 chosen workshop rotations

 

3:00-3:30: Breakout session-opportunity to process the day or further connect with families. All welcome!

 

Workshop themes for the day: (please select 3)

 

The Enneagram: A tool that helps us look at personality types – at motivations, core beliefs, and patterns that drive behavior and impact how we operate in the world.

 

Family of Origin: Taking a closer look at the family unit that shaped one’s early life experiences thus influencing values, beliefs and decision-making in their present life.

 

Beyond the Diagnosis: Emphasizing the critical role of clinical diagnosis and where they interface with age-appropriate development during adolescent formative years.

 

Trauma: Taking a closer look at the many facets of trauma, while also looking at how our brains process trauma and respond to treatment modalities. A look into EMDR therapy will be explored.

 

The “Stuck Points” for adopted teens: Exploring the six stuck points for adopted teens, that play a critical role in their developmental years from childhood, adolescence and into young adulthood.

 

Creating a safe space for LGBTQ+ students: Guidance and discussion on how can we provide a safe and supportive space for our LGBTQ+ children in a world that can often feel unsafe to them.

 

Attachment: Taking a look at core sensitivities and relationship patterns across the life span and how these patterns impact parenting and partnership.

 

Intuitive Eating: Exploring a non-diet approach to changing eating habits.  Discover how intuitive eating can help improve your relationship with food, body awareness and how we navigate cultural pressures.

Workshop Descriptions:
Activity Programming, Clubs, and ASTEE Offerings
Explore the diverse extracurricular activities and clubs available on campus. This workshop provides an overview of recreational and social opportunities, along with details about this year’s Alternative Site Therapeutic Educational Experiences (ASTEE).

 

Executive Functioning Skills
Discover strategies for building executive functioning skills in students. This workshop focuses on supporting organization, time management, and study habits, including ways to maximize the effectiveness of evening study hall.

 

New Family Orientation to Residential Programming
This workshop is designed for new families, providing an overview of the residential programming. Topics include key components of the program, daily structures and routines, and the support systems available to students.

 

Safety and Security
Learn about the safety measures and protocols in place to ensure a secure and supportive environment for all residents in an open-campus setting. This workshop covers emergency procedures and strategies to maintain safety.

 

Structure and Routines
Understand the importance of structure and routines in the school’s therapeutic milieu setting. This workshop explores the design behind daily programming, basic expectations, and strategies parents can implement at home to foster consistency.

 

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Skills: Managing Power Struggles
This workshop equips parents with essential skills for handling crisis situations at home, particularly around power struggles. Parents will learn how to create a safe, supportive environment while effectively managing challenging behaviors.

 

Transition House and On-Campus Job Programming
Gain insights into the transition housing options and on-campus job programs available for students. This workshop highlights the transition program, and the opportunities students have to develop independence and gain work experience.

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Families (TCIF) Workshop
which will take place on-campus at Grove School 
Friday, March 7, 2025
9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

 

This workshop is designed to empower adults with the tools and strategies necessary to support their children during challenging moments.

 

During this full-day workshop, participants will:

 

  • Learn how to prevent or de-escalate crises when they arise.
  • Acquire skills and knowledge to help your child develop better coping strategies.
  • Understand how to view a crisis as an opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and improve emotional resilience.
  • Learn how not to personalize behaviors.

 

The workshop will be led by our experienced and trained facilitators: Alex Klein, John Ainsley, Cassi Walker, and Kevin Davis.
